Looks like that book is well written! I didn't have time to climb Devils Tower when I was there. Maybe next time!

Alright I think I have one criticism. Make sure you are consistent with your photo captions. Just noticed the picture of Terry on "Photo finish" has the caption inside the picture while the others are above or below. When I grade lab reports, all figure captions must be below the figures they represent. As a suggestion, I would stick to a convention like that. Word dude.

I just updated the sample chapter again (on 4/2/09). The updated changes include:

1) Tons of grammatical corrections.
2) Text "tinkering."
3) Route Photo Labels
4) Easier to read photo captions.
5) Photo Color Corrections.

Thanks to those of you who have been helping me out!
Wes

Paul Tatts,

Thanks for the great feedback. You have some good suggestions. I just added a "Routes by Rating & Type" chart to the sample chapter. Should make for a nice quick reference of the routes at each area.

I agree with you that the first few paragraph's of the Scab Creek chapter is awkward and I will rework that.

As far as the photos go, the aerial photo really has bad colors and lighting but its all I have and I wanted to show off the descent and give a scale of the area.. I might try to make that shot black and white. The other photos are not permanent yet and I am currently seeking better photos for many of the shots I have.

Thanks for the feedback and keep it coming. I just updated the sample chapter.

Thanks,
Wes

First of all, awesome man! Looks really good, of the quality of the guidebooks we get over here which take about 20 people (and years) to put together so well impressed.
Being really nit picking i didn't like a couple of things.
1. If the photo on the stonehenge picture didn't have a car poking into it it would look way better.
2. The writing on the first picture of the scab creek buttress is difficult to read
3. Just a suggestion really but by "number of routes" before crag areas a "grade range" is pretty useful so people get a good idea if it's worth the trip without having to go through the whole chapter.
4. I don't like the "walk off" picture, not sure what exactly about it but I guess it doesn't really look as professional as the other pics. Might just be being a dick!
5. Get your ass leading the roof above jumbo crack... the topo with a line heading straight across that would look sick!
Otherwise it looks awesome. Well done.
